The Belgian press have laid into the national
team after the disappointing draw against Tunisia has left their hopes of
progressing to the last 16 of the World Cup hanging by a thread.
Robert Waseige's men started brightly in Monday's clash, taking an early
lead through skipper Mark Wilmots.
But after Raouf Bouzaiene equalised just a few minuets later the Belgians
spent the rest of the match defending as the impressive Tunisians took a
stranglehold on the match.
That has left Belgium third in Group H a point adrift of Russia, who they meet
in a must-win match on Friday.
Het Laatste Nieuws summed up the feeling among the press, calling yesterday's
draw: "one of the black pages in the history of Belgian football".
De Morgen was equally scathing in its criticism, declaring: "It is shameful
to walk around in Japan being Belgian. It's hard to remain optimistic about
it."
Het Nieuwsblad added: "It was below everything. It was a terrible evening for
the Belgian national team. Everything stays possible, but this is merely
mathematical."
La Derniere Heure singled out coach Waseige, saying: "A big zero for Robert
[Waseige]."
