China coach Bora Milutinovic was "proud" of his side's performance in the 4-0 defeat to Brazil which eliminated them from the competition.

The result meant that the Asian qualifiers could not make the second round with one game left to play but Milutinovic was still pleased with his team.

"I'm proud of them," said the veteran Yugoslavian.

"I'm very happy with how they performed. They made a huge effort, I can't ask for more than that.

"You have to remember who they were playing against."

The result ended any hope of Milutinovic continuing his enviable record of taking all his World Cup sides into the second round.

'Milu' was looking for a fifth straight appearance in the knock-out phase after taking Mexico, Costa Rica, the United States and Nigeria.

But the team also garnered praise from the Brazilians.

Midfielder Juninho complimented them on their positive style.

"They are a good side," said the former Atletico Madrid and Middlesbrough star, now with Santos.

"Even after 4-0 they still kept going, still tried to score, still tried to mark Brazilian players."

China are the lowest ranked of all the teams in the World Cup at number 57 in the FIFA rankings.

In contrast, Brazil are at number two.

China face Turkey in Seoul on Thursday.
