The president of the Polish football association
(PZPN) has told midfielder Marek Kozminski he should consider quitting after his
performance in the 2-0 defeat by World Cup co-hosts South Korea.
PZPN boss Michal Listkiewicz said of the veteran: "He played so badly he
should consider retirement."
Unsurprisingly, Kozminski did not share Listkiewicz's opinion of his future.
"That's nonsense. I played a poor match but the whole team was bad," the
31-year-old responded.
Kozminski, who plays for Italian club Ancona, has won 42 caps in a 10-year
international career, and is one of his country's most experienced players -
only four of his squadmates have played more matches for Poland.
But Tuesday's defeat was a disaster for the fancied Poles, who swept to
victory in a European qualifying group which included Norway and Ukraine, and
there have been calls for heads to roll.
They now face a crucial match against Portugal, who were also surprisingly
stung in their first match when they went down 3-2 to the United States.
The loser will be eliminated and Poland coach Jerzy Engel has promised three
changes for the match.
