Schalke defender Nico van Kerckhoven will miss Belgium's Group H clash with Tunisia on Monday, coach Robert Waseige has confirmed.

Van Kerckhoven missed the 2-2 draw with hosts Japan last week and is unlikely to be fit in time for the game at Oita.

"We cannot take any risks, and we shouldn't expect miracles," said Red Devils boss Waseige.

"He's recovering well, but not fast enough to let him start against Tunisia."

However, Glen de Boeck has returned to full training.

Waseige will leave his post to become Standard Liege coach after the finals and Belgian football association (KBVB) president Jan Peeters has outlined the profile of his successor.

After a meeting with the KBVB's Executive Committee, Peeters said: "The new coach has to be free of contract obligations, have Belgian nationality and has to have a coaching diploma from the association.

"Up until now, no direct contacts have been made and they will have to wait until the squad returns from Japan."

Excelsior Mouscron coach Hugo Broos, Anderlecht coach Aime Antheunis and former Belgian international Rene Vandereycken are leading contenders for the role.
