Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes hailed
Spain's teamwork and resolve after they fought back from a goal down to beat
Paraguay 3-1.
The Spaniards won for the second successive game and can now aim to keep their
unbeaten streak alive against South Africa in their final group match.
Morientes, who came in as a substitute at the start of the second half, scored
Spain's first two goals, and captain Fernando Hierro sealed the points from the
penalty spot.
"We have already qualified for the second round and that allows us to face
the match against South Africa with a lot of strength and calmness," said the
Real Madrid striker on the club's official website, www.realmadrid.com.
"I have had the fortune of scoring two goals, but I have to say the passes
have been excellent,"continues the 26-year-old.
Spain were losing after an own goal from Carles Puyol but coach Antonio
Camacho's changes at half-time proved crucial.
Midfielders Ivan Helguera replaced Luis Enrique while Morientes came on for
Diego Tristan.
"I came out with a lot of hope and the team were looking to recover since the
beginning of the first half," said Morientes.
However, Spanish fans may want to see Morientes in the starting line-up more
often after his two crucial goals today.
"Camacho has many great strikers and I am certain that the decision he takes
will be the right one."
Spain face South Africa on June 12.
