Senegal coach Bruno Metsu has claimed his side's
impressive World Cup performances prove the strength of African football.
Metsu's side are on the verge of qualification for the second round after
beating world and European champions France in the tournament's opening match
and being unfortunate in being held to a draw by Denmark on Thursday.
"I think it's great for Africa," said Metsu. "As far as the next match is
concerned we know that if we take a point against Uruguay then we will qualify
for the last 16.
"At the beginning of the competition no-one would have believed we could beat
France and draw with Denmark," he told www.bbc.co.uk.
"Now we have to confirm our qualities against Uruguay, because getting into
the second round would be magnificent for the team."
Senegal's goalkeeper Tony Sylva echoed his boss' views after the 1-1 draw with
the Danes, telling allafrica.com: "We knew it would be a very difficult game.
"I think that we have shown that Senegal are a very solid team."
