Poland striker Cezary Kucharski has admitted he is hoping to get his World Cup chance against Portugal on Monday.

Following the Poles' dismal opening Group D defeat at the hands of co-hosts South Korea in Busan, the Legia Warsaw frontman has set his sights on a starting role and shooting his country back in to contention.

Defeat would be disaster for both sides, with the Portuguese still smarting from their shock 3-2 defeat by the USA.

"For one moment in Busan I thought that the coach would give me a chance," said Kucharski, who did not even enter the game as a substitute.

"I was prepared and ready to play and I don't know if after the defeat to Korea (coach) Jerzy Engel will change the squad."
