Argentina goalkeeper Pablo Cavallero has
attempted to douse the 'Bonfire of the Vanities' that's threatening to consume
Friday's World Cup showdown with England.
He says he at least is not overwhelmed by thoughts of "putting one over"
England.
"We are not thinking about hurting our rival, in eliminating England," he
said.
"We are thinking about our team. Maybe (it is) being selfish, but we need a
victory because it will qualify us and give us confidence.
"We will play with that objective."
The Celta Vigo keeper in the Spanish Primera Liga insisted victory in Friday's
Group F crunch game would not be any sweeter because the vanquished would be
Sven-Goran Eriksson's side.
"We don't want an England defeat. We want an Argentine victory to qualify for
the second round," said the 28-year-old.
Even so, Cavallero is well aware that his sane view of the match is not shared
by everyone.
"I'm sure the fans would enjoy a victory more because the opponents are
England," he added.
"It will be a very exciting match, because a draw is not good for England, so
we will both be looking for the victory."
