Barcelona have earned the eternal gratitude of Uruguay international Fabian Carini by rescuing him from the Juventus bench.

The goalkeeper, who made his World Cup bow in the 2-1 defeat to Denmark at the weekend, will spend next season on loan at the Nou Camp.

"On Saturday I was told the best news of my life, me signing for Barcelona," the 22-year-old told Spanish newspaper AS.

The move is a blessing for Carini who is yet to make his first-team debut for Juve after two seasons with the Turin giants.

With first Edwin van der Sar then Gianluigi Buffon ahead of him in the pecking order, claiming the number one jersey was always going to be a tall order.

"I arrived in Turin with lots of hope, but I have not had the possibility of showing my quality," he said.

"The Italian experience will help me when I arrive in Barcelona."

At international level he is the first choice goalkeeper for Victor Pua's team, although he must dislodge Argentina international Roberto Bonano from the Barcelona goal.

But Carini said: "I believe I have more experience than my age suggests, because I have played in a Copa America and a World Cup."

The Blaugrana club, in search of a goalkeeper, had other players in mind before Carini.

The German Under-21 international Robert Enke was reportedly involved in negotiations with the Catalan club but Carini appears to have pipped him to the post.

"I was in desperation when it appeared that Barca were close to signing Enke, but my agent told me to be calm, that in the end it would be me, and it has turned out like that," said Carini.
