Turkey coach Senol Gunes is sweating on the fitness of Inter Milan midfielder Okan Buruk ahead of Monday's World Cup opener against Brazil in Ulsan.

The 28-year-old midfielder suffered a thigh strain in training and is doubtful for the Group C clash.

Gunes remains confident that Turkey can get a positive result against the Brazilians though, with or without Buruk in the side.

"Buruk has a slight strain. It does not look serious and his condition will be much clearer before the match," said Gunes, who is relishing the prospect of causing an upset against Brazil as the Turks go into their first World Cup for 48 years.

"The longing of 48 years will end with tomorrow's game," he added.

"We know how strong Brazil are and how good their game structure is, and their past successes.

"But we want to make a good start, we have to do that."
