Paraguay's controversial captain and goalkeeper
Jose Luis Chilavert nearly seriously injured his understudy with one of his
trademark free-kicks on Friday.
Chilavert, suspended from his country's first match for spitting on Brazilian
full-back Roberto Carlos after a qualifying match, struck a ferocious shot which
bent back a finger on reserve goalkeeper Rocardo Tavarelli's left hand.
Fortunately, the Olimpia goalkeeper will be fit to take Chilavert's place in
the opening match, against South Africa in Busan on Sunday.
"It's nothing serious, but I will need a lot of ice. I will play even
plastered," said Tavarelli.
"I'm used to Chilavert's power, but I was unprepared in that one.
"But it's nothing more than a fright. Thank God it's nothing serious."
