A bout of tonsilitis forced Costa Rica striker
Winston Parks to take medication and miss his team's latest training session.
Team doctor Willy Galvez ruled the Udinese striker out of the session and
wants him to recover fully before returning to action.
"He had a temperature and a general sickness. We gave him medication and he
shouldn't do any physical work until he gets better," said Galvez.
Parks, 20, is one of coach Alexander Guimaraes' young hopes for the tournament
and he should still be fit for the team's opening match against China on
Tuesday.
"He will be fine," promised Guimaraes. "Maybe he will be able to return to
training tomorrow."
Although he has only four caps and one goal for the senior team, Parks
attracted attention with his performances at the 1999 and 2000 World Youth
Championships.
The medical staff did bring good news, with Manchester City striker Paulo
Wanchope coming through 45 minutes of the team's friendly against USA yesterday
without further aggravation to his knee injury.
After facing China, Costa Rica play Turkey and Brazil in Group C.
