Germany are a footballing nation living on past glories and are not the favourites to qualify from Group E, according to Saudi Arabia coach Nasser Al Johar.

Al Johar, who's team face Germany in their World Cup opener on Saturday, believes his team are on a level playing field with all three teams in the group which also includes the Republic of Ireland and Cameroon.

And he believes that Germany, despite their reputation, are not the strongest team in the group.

"Germany is a football power, no doubt about it, but it's more because of their history than because of their recent performances," said Al Johar.

"Ireland showed a great level of performance in eliminating Holland, and Cameroon are African champions.

"But we will try to find a way to make history at this World Cup and I'm sure that this can be a great moment for Asian football.

"I firmly believe in Saudi Arabia, Korea, Japan and China. They will do great work here and will force FIFA to give us more spots in the next World Cup."
