Rookie Russian striker Ruslan Pimenov staked his claim for a place in the starting line-up after netting his first goal for his country in a warm-up match on Thursday.
Pimenov headed in the opening goal against Simidzu S-Pulse after just 10 minutes as Oleg Romantsev's men ran out 3-0 winners in front of a 20,000-strong crowd.
And with star striker Vladimir Beschastnykh disappointing, and substituted at the break, the Lokomotiv Moscow youngster may yet get his chance when the Russians open their Group H campaign against Tunisia on Wednesday.
Romantsev was without midfielder star Alexander Mostovoi and defensive midfielder Alexei Smertin.
Frontman Alexander Kerzhakov came on as a substitute after recovering from an ankle problem.
Egor Titov (75) and Dmitri Khokhlov (78) completed the scoring for the Russians.
