Denmark defender Thomas Helveg is confident he can put the shackles on Uruguay star Alvaro Recoba in their World Cup opener.

AC Milan defender Helveg, who has played against the talented Inter striker in Italy's Serie A, will be the man most likely charged with stopping Recoba when the Danes open their World Cup campaign in Ulsan on Saturday.

And while he is adamant that Recoba will definitely be the Uruguayans' player to watch, he believes he can neutralise his attacking threat.

"Recoba is a player who can make the difference on his good days, but he is also South American and that's why he can disappear from a match if things don't go as he planned from the start," Helveg told BT.

"We can do several things: attack him when he gets the ball or wait, but as he has a very good and dangerous shot, I think we will prefer the first choice."

Of his previous battles with Recoba in Serie A Helveg said:"I don't remember how it has ended up in the past but I can't imagine that I've lost the duel."
