Hernan Medford is hoping his experience will enable him to play a pivotal role in Costa Rica's World Cup campaign.
Medford, the sole survivor of Costa Rica's first ever finals appearance in Italy in 1990, is hoping they can emulate their achievements of 12 years ago when they made the second round.
Alexandre Guimaraes' side are paired in Group C with Brazil, Turkey and China this time around.
"It looks hard, but there's nothing impossible in football. We want to get really far," Medford said.
Medford was the Costa Rica hero in Italy with the winning goal against Sweden which clinched their passage out of the group stage.
"Repeating that would be great. I hope I will be able to play, and score a few goals so we can qualify," he admitted.
