China defender Li Weifeng is relishing the chance to display his skills alongside captain Fan Zhiyi against the likes of Brazil and Turkey in Group C - but his ultimate dream is to clinch a move to Europe.

Weifeng, who forms China's central defensive paring with Dundee's Zhiyi, wants to seal a move to a European club after the World Cup and is hoping to use the tournament to showcase his talents.

Weifeng, who lived in Brazil for four years from 1993-97, said: "I learned a lot about football living over there but my dream is not to play against the likes of Ronaldo and Rivaldo at international level, it is facing them in their European club sides."

"If I have the chance of playing abroad after the World Cup I would choose a European team in either the Spanish, English or Italian leagues. That's the dream for any Chinese player."

The 24-year-old Weifeng, who is renowned for his aerial prowess, is confident the Chinese can make an impact at the World Cup, starting with victory against Costa Rica in their group opener on Saturday.

"China and Costa Rica are at the same level and I think we can defeat them," he added.

"I'm a bit nervous and very anxious about playing that match.

"But our morale is very high and we're confident of getting a good start to this World Cup if we give our best."
