Shinji Ono's fitness was thrown into doubt again on Wednesday when it emerged that the Japan midfielder had undergone further hospital tests on a stomach problem.

Ono, who complained of stomach cramps after Japan's friendly with Sweden on Saturday, was given the go ahead to resume training on Monday after initial tests at a Shizuoka hospital.

But the Japan Football Association revealed that Ono left a Saitama hospital on Wednesday after a having a second check-up ordered by the governing body's medical staff.

The JFA have denied a Japanese newspaper report which claimed the Feyenoord star had been in hospital to have his appendix removed.

But the latest hospital tests will heighten fears that he is a doubtful starter for Japan's World Cup opener against Belgium in Saitama on Tuesday.
