PSV Eindhoven president Harry van Raay has confirmed the club are interested in bringing former national team boss Guus Hiddink back as their new coach.

Speaking on PSV's official club website Van Raay admitted Hiddink was prominent on their list of candidates to replace Eric Gerets, who left the club earlier this month.

"Guus Hiddink is very high on our list," Van Raay said.

"Hiddink has a few advantages. He is highly experienced, he knows the club and the culture of PSV, so he is an important candidate."

Hiddink coached PSV from June 1986 until May 1990 when he switched to Turkish side Fenerbahce.

"He is high on the list. Is he the highest? I won't say that, I don't want to make the impression that we exclude anyone," Van Raay added.

The club will meet again in the next few days to discuss the post, and an official announcement is unlikely until after the World Cup.

Part of the reason for that is that Hiddink is presently in charge of the South Korea national team.

Van Raay said: "We haven't ended the discussions over the new coach yet. We also haven't talked with anyone up until now."

Another possible candidate is Georges Leekens who said last Tuesday in the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper that he was after the role.

He said: "I'm 53, I know a lot of football and it is time. If I can choose between clubs from abroad and Holland, I choose Holland.

"I love the way the work is done in Holland."

Other names linked with the post include Sparta boss Frank Rijkaard, Martin Jol of RKC and Erwin Koeman, who was assistant to Gerets.
