Paulo Sousa is winning his race to be fit for
Portugal's World Cup opener against the United States on June 5.
The 32-year-old Espanyol man picked up a thigh injury in Saturday's 2-0
friendly win over China and was considered doubtful for Portugal's first Group D
match.
But medical tests on Tuesday have confirmed that Sousa has suffered only a minor
muscle strain and he should be back in training on Friday.
Portuguese team doctor Henrique Jones said: "Paulo Sousa has suffered a
muscle strain which is not as bad as we first thought.
"It is not a serious injury and he can get back to training between Friday
and Saturday."
Meanwhile, Porto winger Nuno Capucho gave the medical staff another scare
on Tuesday after he left the training pitch injured.
A relieved Jones has said that Capucho's problem is "nothing serious" and
that the player left the training session as a "precaution".
The Portuguese camp leave Macau for Korea on Thursday.
