Japanese star Shinji Ono has been diagnosed with
appendicitis and is facing a World Cup knockout just days before the start of
the tournament.
Ono was taken to hospital after Saturday's draw against Sweden complaining of
tiredness and pains in his mid-section.
The news was published on Feyenoord's official website,
www.feyenoord.nl.
Japan are evaluating his condition and will announce in the next 24 hours if
he is to have surgery, or receive medication.
Whatever they decide, Ono, a key component in Feyenoord's UEFA Cup winning
side, is almost certainly out of the World Cup.
