Ecuador star Agustin Delgado is expected to be fit
for the start of the World Cup despite the Southampton striker missing yet
another training session on Monday.
Delgado, who has had two knee operations in the past year, trained away from
his team-mates in the gym.
He re-joined the squad for the last few minutes of training and took part in
some ball work.
Team doctor Patricio Maldonado is unconcerned though, insisting that Delgado
is not a serious injury worry.
"Delgado is in perfect condition. But after undergoing surgery twice, his
muscles are not as strong as they used to be," he said.
Coach Hernan Dario Gomez echoed those sentiments, adding that he expects him
to be fit for their World Cup opener against Italy on June 3.
"Agustin has a great body. He's very strong and when he's in good shape, he's
unstoppable," Gomez stated.
"We hope to have him like that in the World Cup. He won't have any problem to
play against Italy."
After the Azzurri, Ecuador face Croatia and Mexico in Group G.
