Turkey coach Senol Gunes has hit back at the critics who got stuck into his team after their 2-0 defeat to South Africa on Thursday.

"Turkey should support us. The critics should be supportive, not destructive," Gunes told a sceptical Turkish media.

"Hot weather and the humidity affected us and the players couldn't perform as they normally would.

"But with the World Cup, these will all end. We are on the right track. Our plans are being followed routinely. Give us support and don't worry at all."

Turkey have now arrived at their training base in Ulsan where they found the conditions were a relief after the heat and humidity of Hong Kong.

Gunes insists spirit within the camp is high and his team will sparkle when they kick off their World Cup campaign against Brazil on June 3.

"The morale of the team is very good. Nobody can spoil this. Let everybody do his own job, nothing else."
