Portugal will sweat on the fitness of Paulo Sousa after he picked up a thigh injury in Saturday's friendly win over China.

The Espanyol midfielder will not know if his World Cup is over until Tuesday when he will undergo a scan.

However there was better news for Petit who injured his back in the same game but is expected to resume training on Wednesday.

Despite the setbacks, Portugal picked up a 2-0 victory over China with two goals in 11 second-half minutes from Nuno Gomes and Pauleta.

Defender Beto thought it was a useful exercise especially as they will face similar opposition in Group D in the shape of co-hosts South Korea.

"It was a good test. We have a good understanding and we talked between us a lot," Beto said.

"Asiatic teams have fast players and we have to be aware of it."

Beto's fellow defender Jorge Costa played down the importance of the game, however, noting: "It was a good training session, nothing further then that."

Rui Jorge thought that the half-time substitutions changed the course of the game.

"I was fortunate to be on the bench for the first half to see where the Chinese were weak and take advantage of it," he said.

"It was a good training session, but we didn't see the true value of China.

"I don't know at what percentage we are, but we will start the World Cup at the maximum."

Portugal's first game in the finals is on June 5 when they face the United States.

Meanwhile, Hugo Viana arrived in Macao on Sunday following his late call-up as replacement for Daniel Kenedy, sent home after a positive test for the banned diuretic furosenid.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder, just 19, sat next to Portugal legend Eusebio on the flight.

He said: "I played in the Under-21 European Championship and now I'm at the World Cup. I'm living a dream."
