While most of Japan will be backing the national
team to do well, there is a small corner which belongs to their Group H rivals
Russia.
The teams meet on June 9 but the mayor of Simidzu, where Russia have made
their base, Hiromas Mijagisimi, has promised total cooperation to ensure they
enjoy the best possible preparation.
"All employees of the training base will put in maximum effort so that the
Russian football players have good conditions for training," Mijagisimi said.
Russia's team manager Aleksandr Polinsky responded by saying that he "hopes
the training base will bring them good luck".
Meanwhile, Russia's team doctors expect Celta Vigo midfielder Aleksandr
Mostovoi to be fit for Russia's opening game against Tunisia on June 5.
