Portuguese football chief Gilberto Madaml is
unhappy with the way Daniel Kenedy's failed dope test was handled.
The Maritimo midfielder tested positive for the banned diuretic furosenid when
the whole squad were asked to provide samples by the Portuguese government's
anti-doping commission on May 14.
However, the party were informed of the result just hours before FIFA's squad
deadline on Tuesday, leaving coach Antonio Oliveira short of time to find a
replacement in Sporting Lisbon teenager Hugo Viana.
"There are situations we can't understand, that don't make sense," said
Madaml, president of the Portuguese football association.
"The tests were done on May 14 but the anti-doping commission only sent us a
letter on the afternoon of the 21st, the last day to send to FIFA the list of 23
players for the World Cup.
"Some hours before the letter arrived there was a phone call to Macau
(Portugal's training base) saying all players were in a condition to play."
However, Madaml does not dispute the results, as Kenedy admits the positive
test was probably a result of slimming pills he had taken.
