South Africa coach Jomo Sono believes it is time for an African team to take the World Cup by storm.

Sono, who watched his side beat Turkey 2-0 in a warm-up match in Hong Kong, admits an African nation reaching the semi-finals for the first time would be a fantastic achievement.

"It's about time now that an African team made an impact," he said.

"Most of the African teams have a majority of their players based in Europe.

"If an African team gets to the semi-finals, I will consider that a success."

Cameroon's appearance at Italia 90, where they went out in the quarter-finals to England, represents the continent's best performance.
