The Paraguay squad are in line for a multi-million dollar bonus if they pull off the unlikely feat of winning the World Cup.

Cesare Maldini's men will split four million US dollars (£2.75million) between them if they defy the odds by emerging triumphant on June 30.

The more realistic target of qualifying for the second round, as they did at France 98, will see them earn 380,000 US dollars between them.

Paraguayan football chief Oscar Giagni said: "This is a 20% increase on the 1998 World Cup bonuses."

The coaching staff, however, can be more certain of their income.

Maldini will earn 480,000 US dollars for the six months he has been with the team, no matter what the progress of the team.

Maldini's assistants, fellow Italian Giusseppe Dossena and Argentinian Gabriel Macaya, both have contracts worth 120,000 dollars.
