Costa Rica coach Alexander Guimaraes was upbeat
despite watching his team produce another unconvincing display against a
Japanese club side.
The Central Americans struggled to a 1-0 win over second division outfit Mito,
two days after an embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Grampus Eight.
Mauricio Solis scored the only goal of the game in the 22nd minute, tapping in
the rebound after Rolando Fonseca's shot was blocked.
They did at least win, and Guimaraes was pleased with a much improved
defensive display.
He said: "We improved a lot in defence, as I asked them to. We may have
played in an other way and scored a lot of goals, but that wasn't the idea for
this game."
Manchester City forward Paulo Wanchope was not risked despite a full recovery
from a knee injury.
Wanchope is, however, likely to start in the final pre-World Cup warm up game
against Belgium on Sunday.
Guimaraes added: "You will be able to see the team that will face China,
Turkey and Brazil in the World Cup against Belgium."
