Italy centre-back Marco Materazzi sees the World Cup as the perfect opportunity to put aside the misery of his Inter Milan team's Serie A misfortune.
Inter lost the title to Juventus on the last day of the season, having led for long spells of the season.
And he is glad that the World Cup has arrived so soon at the end of the league campaign.
"We must only focus on the World Cup and put the past behind us," he told www.inter.it, his club's website.
"We want to do well and make it to the end final, and hopefully this time we are able to come out on top."
