South Korea coach Guus Hiddink has revealed that
he almost landed the manager's job at Celtic before he agreed to take over the
football fortunes of the Far East nation.
The World Cup co-hosts continued their build-up for the competition with a 1-1
draw against England on Tuesday, but they impressed the football world most with
a 4-1 win over Scotland last week.
And Hiddink admitted he could have been rooting for the other side.
The former Real Madrid, PSV Eindhoven and Holland coach was close to being
appointed Celtic manager before Martin O'Neill got the job.
He said: "To be honest, I was rather close to being a manager in Scotland
with Celtic.
"There was one man inside the club who made the decision. I don't know
exactly what happened.
"It is true we spoke about players and budgets and so on but I am not a man
with bitterness. They did well in appointing Martin O'Neill.
"Celtic are a big club -- not only in Scotland but worldwide. Now they must
make the next step in Europe and compete beyond Christmas."
