Paraguayan FA president Oscar Harrsion has denied claims that national team coach Cesare Maldini cannot communicate with his players.

The Italian has been criticised in the Paraguayan media who believe Maldini is lacking in knowledge of the country and struggling to converse in Spanish.

But Harrison bit back, saying: "He speaks a pretty good Spanish. The players speak with him in Spanish, as we do. Those are just lies."

There is a frosty relationship between Paraguayan media and team, with Harrison believing all that is possible is being done to undermine the bid of Maldini's team.

"This team is not everybody's team," fumed Harrison.

"It belongs only to those that support it, not to the ones that wants to destroy it."
