Japan coach Philippe Troussier responded candidly to reporters after facing his first press conference at his side's World Cup training camp.
Troussier dodged questions from the media scrum of nearly 400 journalists and photographers by presenting his thoughts in a statement.
He was expected to answer questions after missing Friday's squad announcement when he attended Group H rivals Belgium's 2-1 victory over France in Paris.
Accompanied by Japanese Football Association president Shunichiro Okano, Troussier claimed that he was at ease with his squad and their chances.
"The 23 players in our squad perfectly express the values we've developed the last four years," read the statement.
"When I selected the squad and my coaching staff, I was considering thedemands of the team, the relationships of the players and other factors.
"I strongly believe in the choices I made and I take full responsibility for them.
"I want the players to remember to respect those who couldn't make the squad, and to carry out their duties.
"Our mission may be difficult but it's not impossible. I want them to give it their best effort."
