FIGO HAMPERED BY ANKLE KNOCK
Luis Figo is struggling to be fit for Portugal's
final World Cup warm-up game against China on Saturday.
The Real Madrid winger, currently FIFA's World Player of the Year was
substituted after a lacklustre performance in the second half of last week's
Champions League final.
His club defeated Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 but Figo is now being troubled by an
ankle injury and Portuguese team doctor Henrique Jones is ready to advise more
rest.
Jones revealed how Figo could be left out to ensure his full fitness for
Portugal's Group D opener against the USA on June 5 in Suwon.
"Figo's progress has been extremely positive, he is working near his level, but
he still has to do some specific training,", said Jones.
Figo did not train on Sunday and has been put on an individual programme.
"We want to improve his condition for the World Cup and for that, Figo will
train only once a day," added Jones.
"We will do everything to get him fit for Saturday, but even if he is 100% the
final decision will be taken by coach Antonio Oliveira."
