RONALDO'S GOAL-DEN WORLD CUP
Ronaldo banished the awful memory of World Cup final defeat by France four years ago by scoring a magnificent double and inspiring Brazil to a 2-0 win over Germany.
In the process the Inter Milan star equalled Brazil's record for goals in a finals tournament - held by Pele - and won the Golden Shoe for top goalscorer, with eight. Here PA Sport looks at Ronaldo's World Cup goals:
BRAZIL 2 TURKEY 1 (first round)
The South Americans battled back from a goal down with Ronaldo levelling five minutes after the interval by steering home Rivaldo's perfect cross before the Barcelona man converted an 87th-minute penalty in the Munsu Stadium.
BRAZIL 4 CHINA 0 (first round)
Ominously for Brazil's World Cup rivals, Ronaldo scored the fourth on 55 minutes to register his second goal of the tournament and declared: "I think I can score more goals now. I believe I can score a goal in every match. I feel
great."
BRAZIL 5 COSTA RICA 2 (first round)
Ronaldo fired Brazil into the lead in the 10th minute when Edilson broke down the left and stabbed the ball along the six-yard box and although he claimed the goal, Luis Marin got the final crucial touch.
FIFA later awarded it to the Brazilian.
In the 13th minute, Ronaldo collected Rivaldo's corner at the near post and turned to shoot home right-footed.
BRAZIL 2 BELGIUM 0 (second round)
Ronaldo rounded off the victory with just three minutes left as he took his tally in the competition to five goals. He was put through on the exposed figure of Geert de Vlieger and converted his shot just under the Belgian goalkeeper's body.
BRAZIL 1 TURKEY 0 (semi-final)
A moment of magic in the 49th minute from Ronaldo secured Brazil's place in the World Cup final for the third successive time.
After being released by Gilberto Silva, who had surged down the left, he rode one challenge before toe-poking the ball into the corner, although goalkeeper Recber Rustu got a hand to it.
BRAZIL 2 GERMANY 0 (final)
After a tournament of shocks, Ronaldo restored the rightful order to the game as by far the best team in the World Cup, deservedly lifted the trophy.
He become the first player for 28 years to score more than six goals in the finals when he prodded home after goalkeeper Oliver Kahn had spilled Rivaldo's shot.
With 11 minutes left, Rivaldo produced a stunning dummy and there was Ronaldo to control the ball before squeezing his shot into the far corner to secure the trophy.
