OUR GUIDE TO INCHEON

A glance at the World Cup stadium in Incheon tells the story about the city.

With its undulating roof, the stadium resembles the sea, a tribute to the city's status as Korea's second largest port.

Incheon lies around 20 miles to the west of Seoul and is described as the "nautical gateway" to the capital.

Accommodation:

There is accommodation to suit all budgets in Incheon, ranging from deluxe hotels right down to motels.

Some of the more plush hotels offer stunning views across the West Sea, while casinos and karaoke are on offer at most.

Places of Interest:

Jeondeungsa: A temple on Ganghwado Island reckoned to have been built around 1,600 years ago and regarded among the best in the country. The unusual style of its architecture and iron bell attract visitors.

Hwadojin Park: The venue for the signing of the Amity and Trade Treaty between Korea, the US, Britain and Germany in 1882. Its main hall contains relics from the time.

Jayu Park: Korea's first Western-style park which includes a statue of General MacArthur, who led the Incheon Landing operation during the Korean War. Offers stunning views of Incheon Harbour.

China Town: First established in 1883 it offers authentic Chinese cuisine.

Wolmido Street of Culture: Hosts the Jemulpo Art Festival in June. The festival features performances of traditional Korean music and art exhibitions.

Local Delicacies:

Being a maritime city, seafood is the main delicacy.

Specific examples include:

Kkotgetang - spicy blue crab soup.
Kkotgejjim - steamed blue crab
Haemultang - seafood soup

Where To Eat:

Waterfront restaurants offer fresh seafood just taken from the Yellow Sea. The majority offer the three delicacies above.

The Jjanjangmyeon and Kalguksu alleys contain restaurants serving black and homemade noodles respectively, while China Town is home of traditional Chinese cuisine.

To the World Cup stadium: It is a five minute walk from the Munhak Stadium Station or a 40-minute drive from Incheon International Airport. There are over 4,000 car park spaces around the stadium.
