MILAN JOY AT FLAMINI CAPTURE AC Milan have completed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini on a four-year contract. The Frenchman opted to join the Italian giants Milan instead of signing a contract extension with the Gunners. And Milan's sporting director Ariedo Braida said: "I have to say Flamini was a player that (Milan boss Carlo) Ancelotti really wanted and Milan is like a family, where decisions are made jointly. "Flamini is not an unknown player. I'm not surprised by his talent and I assume several teams would have wanted his services. "Although no negotiations are ever easy, it wasn't difficult to convince Flamini to join Milan. "Flamini has made a choice as his contract with Arsenal is coming to an end and we are delighted he has chosen Milan. "He is a very good player and he can offer a lot to the team." Flamini expressed his joy at the move after finalising terms with the Serie A outfit. "I am extremely happy. Thanks a million," he said. After signing, Flamini revealed he would have penned a new deal with Arsenal last summer but the 'pain' of missing out on the Premier League influenced his decision to leave the Emirates. Asked if winning the title would have made a difference, Flamini said: "That would have weighed in the balance. It would certainly have counted. "I actually wanted to sign a new contract at Arsenal last July but it didn't happen. AC Milan did so much to sign me I couldn't refuse. "What happened to us after leading the league for so long was the most painful experience I had during four years at Arsenal." |
