Transfer Clockwatch

Deadline Day

  • The Deadline Day coverage ends, as it should, with Peter Odemwingie. Join us bright and early for more reaction to an interesting day.

  • West Brom have released a statement on the Peter Odemwingie saga. Chairman Jeremy Peace told the club's official website: "This evening's developments have brought a conclusion to what has been an unsavoury affair. As our Sporting & Technical Director (designate) Richard Garlick has repeatedly said in recent days, we had no need or desire to sell our core players. The only way we would have considered letting Peter leave was if an acceptable offer was forthcoming and if we had found a suitable replacement at relatively short notice. Neither materialised and, in the end, the matter became a point of principle as much as anything. Peter has acted wholly unprofessionally. He must now accept the fact he remains under contract for a further 18 months and has to focus on his Albion commitments."

  • This is a Done deal from earlier as Hibernian secured the services of Matt Done on loan from Barnsley for the rest of the season. See what we did there.

I feel sorry for the lad and the way the whole thing's turned out. It wasn't any of our doing. I think he was maybe advised that he should turn up here and that the club had made an offer and the offer had been accepted. The wires got crossed somewhere."

  • Some quotes from new Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland, He told Sky Sports News: "I feel very good. I'm glad to get it done and it's the next step of my career and I'm looking forward to it. I tried not to get that in my head (about a move in this window) because anything can happen in football and I decided just see what came of it. I feel very lucky to come to a great club. It just ticked all the boxes for me."

Surely buying players in mid-season is disruptive and also detracts from the actual coaching teams should be undertaking.
