Kris Boyd has refused to rule out making a dramatic return for Scotland - but insists he will focus on his club football with Rangers for now.

The striker netted his eighth goal of the season as the Scottish champions claimed a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock to move back to the top of the Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League, ahead of Celtic's trip to Dundee United.

Boyd refused to be considered for selection for the national team while George Burley remained at the helm, claiming his opportunities were limited after being left on the bench for a goalless draw against Norway at Hampden over a year ago.

Burley's sacking earlier in the week has now paved the way for Boyd to resurrect his international career under the new manager.

"That's a decision I will have to make in the next couple of months," he said.

"But, at this moment in time, I'm enjoying my football with Rangers and hopefully I will get a start on Tuesday night.

"I don't want to go down that road. There is no player bigger than the country. I just felt, at that time, what I did was right for me. I wasn't playing and I just felt it was better for me to concentrate on my club football.

"I've done that and I feel as though I'm reaping the benefits of that now. Whatever happens in the future will happen. I'm not ruling out coming back and I'm not ruling out staying out."

Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor could also find themselves welcomed back into the international fold after being banned for their part in the infamous "Boozegate" affair.

Boyd added: "That's a totally different thing altogether. They knew they were in the wrong and issued their apologies.

"Whatever happens with them will happen. Scotland have said they want them back and it's up to them if they go back. If they both go back, I'm sure it will be a benefit for Scotland."
