Angry Motherwell fans gathered outside Arbroath's Gayfield ground after the
Scottish Cup match was abandoned at half time because of high winds.
The third round match will now be played on Tuesday and vouchers were issued
to fans as they left the ground.
But an angry group of Motherwell supporters demanded their money back and
police and stewards were called in to try and avert any trouble.
The visiting fans were demanding their money back, saying that the vouchers
were no good to them.
The scenes outside the tiny ground made it impossible for the Motherwell team
coach to depart.
Motherwell were 1-0 ahead thanks to a Derek Townsley goal after 13 minutes
before the game was abandoned.
Motherwell manager Billy Davies and Arbroath boss Dave Baikie were both called
to referee Mike McCurry's room at half time to be told he was calling the game
off.
Baikie was upset that the match had been abandoned and said: "This is
Arbroath after all and the wind has been a lot worse in the past than it has
been today.
"There are a lot of unhappy people with the game being abandoned and there
could be trouble.
"The referee made a decision because of the conditions and there wasn't any
point in arguing with him. He had obviously made up his mind to call the game
off.
"My players are unhappy and felt they had a reasonable chance of getting back
in the game in the second half especially as we had the advantage of the
wind."
Motherwell manager Billy Davies said: "Nothing I can say or do will make any
difference.
"It's just one of those things and there is no point whether I agree or
disagree with his decision."
