Former Livingston midfielder Barry Wilson condemned the Almondvale club to the Bell's First Division with the only goal of the game for Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
With Falkirk and Dunfermline both winning, the result was ultimately academic but Wilson struck in the 56th minute to ensure there would be no silver lining for Livi.
But Livi had started brightly and, in the second minute, Sam Morrow turned neatly to put the on-rushing David Mackay through on the right, but the pass was over-hit and Mark Brown gathered.
Inverness, without injured midfielder Ian Black, countered in the 13th minute when Wilson curled a 20-yard free-kick just wide of Roddy McKenzie's left-hand upright.
On-loan Hibs man Morrow looked to profit from a long ball for Livi seven minutes later but pulled up in the box with Grant Munro at his back.
In the 23rd minute, Livi produced the best move of the match.
David McNamee fed Richard Brittain on the left but his dangerous cross was cut out by Brown before Noel Whelan had the chance to finish on the goal line.
Morrow then had to be withdrawn with Steven Hislop coming on.
Livi, missing the drive of suspended Allan Walker, were failing to trouble Mark Brown's goal.
It was a desperately poor game and Livi were lucky not to be reduced to 10 men five minutes before the interval.
Wes Hoolahan's free-kick from inside in his own half was drilled badly into the centre-circle and Wilson was sent clear on McKenzie's goal.
McNamee appeared to pull him back as Wilson fell to the ground just outside the box, but referee John Underhill waved play on despite the pleas of the away support.
Livi simply had to score and Hislop came close two minutes after the break when he saw his close-range header flash wide of the near post from Hoolahan's centre.
But home hopes were extinguished in the 56th minute thanks to a piece of brilliance from Wilson.
After Dennis Wyness had been fouled by Emmanuel Dorado 20 yards from goal, Wilson stepped up to curl the free-kick over the wall and into the net past a motionless McKenzie.
Whelan then flashed a volley wide in the 65th minute as Livi battled for a desperate counter.
Colin Healy then tried his luck from distance before an angled Hoolahan free-kick flew straight into Brown's arms.
With Livingston fans heading for the exit, the game was petering out.
Liam Keogh even passed up a sitter in the final minute when he raced clean through but shot wide for Caley.
