Lee Makel has returned to Livingston after rejecting a new deal to remain at Dunfermline.
The 33-year-old midfielder quit the Almondvale club two years ago for a move to Plymouth.
He spent the last 18 months at Dunfermline but turned down the opportunity to stay at East End Park in favour of a return to Livingston, who were relegated from the Bank of Scotland Premier League last season.
Makel has signed a two-year deal with the option of a third year with the West Lothian outfit.
He said: "I am delighted to return to Livi and especially to work for John Robertson once again.
"The gaffer's building a squad with the aim of bouncing back to the SPL and we'll certainly be giving it our best shot."
Makel was a member of the Livingston team who won the CIS Insurance Cup in 2004 and chief executive Vivien Kyles added: "I am sure many people have fond memories of Lee as a star of the cup-winning team.
"We spoke to Lee about returning to Livingston back in January 2005, and it was a close decision at the time, so we are delighted he has decided to rejoin the club.
"We have been tracking his situation for a while and we are really pleased that it has turned out to Livi's benefit."
