Picture Robertson - depressed.

SLUMP SICKENS ROBERTSON

Livingston manager John Robertson claims performances from certain players within his squad over the last two Bank of Scotland Premier League games have left him the most depressed he has been in his life.

Robertson watched his charges fall to their third successive defeat as David Clarkson struck in the second half for Motherwell.

The Almondvale manager was also disappointed by the manner his team lost 1-0 to Inverness at the weekend.

Following the club's relegation, Robertson has vowed to make wholesale personnel changes this summer and admits he cannot wait to rid the club of under-performing players.

He said: "I have never been so depressed in my life, watching the last two matches when you are asking players to prove to the board that they are worth a contract for next year or they are worth keeping for next year.

"You are asking them to prove to the fans that they are not as bad as they look and you are asking them to prove to me they know the basics of the game and they don't, that's the depressing thing.

"I've seen this club being brought up from the second division, I've seen them qualify for Europe, they have won the CIS Cup and you look at this now.

"You look at some of the players out there and it is just not acceptable.

"It gives me the chance now to make some changes and bring in my own squad and I can promise the Livingston fans that will be here that they will not witness two half hours that they have witnessed in the last two games."

Livingston looked the more threatening prior to Clarkson's 74th-minute strike but failed to take capitalise.

Motherwell manager Terry Butcher was upbeat as his side bounced back from the weekend's loss to Dunfermline.

He said: "A win is a win and there were no harsh words, I was very pleased with them.

"The average age of the team was 22 and that includes Jim Hamilton, who is 30 - it would have been 21 if he was not playing.

"It was a good team performance, it was a bit rusty in the first half but we knew we would have to battle away because the wind made it difficult and the pitch was quite lively as well."
