A second-half David Clarkson header gave visitors Motherwell all three points in Livingston's last home game of the Bank of Scotland Premier League campaign.
The youngster got to a high Martyn Corrigan cross before goalkeeper Roddy McKenzie - who misjudged the flight of the ball in the swirling wind - to direct his header into the gaping goal and decide a typical end-of-season clash.
The visitors had barely threatened prior to Clarkson's 74th-minute effort, with the hosts creating the better of the chances throughout.
Both Livingston manager John Robertson and his Fir Park counterpart Terry Butcher made five changes to their respective starting line-ups and used all their substitutions, a factor which contributed to a low quality clash.
Livingston created the first real chance of the game in the 13th minute when Gary Miller's low cross saw Steve Hislop's effort blocked.
Robert Snodgrass picked up the rebound but his driven left-footed shot was brilliantly saved by the feet of Graeme Smith from close range.
The hosts were then presented with an opportunity to test Smith after Snodgrass was fouled 20 yards from goal - but Martin Scott's free-kick slammed against the defensive wall in the 23rd minute.
Well offered very little in attack during the opening stages of the game but Brian Kerr eventually had an effort at goal in the 26th minute.
Jim Hamilton showed a nice piece of skill to flick the ball to the former Newcastle player - but he dragged his shot wide of Roddy McKenzie's goal.
This game was clearly not for the purists, although any moments of quality came mostly around the penalty boxes.
Livingston midfielder Richard Brittain's cross was then neatly laid off by Hislop to the onrushing Snodgrass - but he lifted his shot well over the bar from 16 yards eight minutes before the break.
The hosts continued to look the more dangerous on the attack after the break and Colin Healy was guilty of missing a sitter on the hour, although credit has to be given to Smith for making a point-blank save.
Scott's deep cross was headed across the six-yard box but Healy's low shot was brilliantly blocked by the goalkeeper.
Well's latest escape seemed to spur the visitors on and Livingston defender Gary Miller twice had to clear the ball off his line during the ensuing minutes.
And in the 74th minute Livingston were made to rue their missed chances as Clarkson beat McKenzie to Corrigan's high cross to head the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.
Former Hearts shot-stopper McKenzie was clearly at fault for the goal but the swirling wind could have played its part.
Motherwell settled down following the breakthrough and continued to press the Lions defence.
And they came closest in the latter stages of the game when Jim Paterson - who started at left-back but moved to attack following several substitutions - powerfully shot just wide.
