Danny Invincibile scored twice as Kilmarnock got their Bank of Scotland
Premier League season back on track with a 4-2 win over Dundee at Rugby Park.
The Ayrshire men went into the game with one SPL win in the last 10 and it
seemed there was more doom on the horizon when, with only five minutes gone,
Dens' striker Nacho Novo slid the ball past stand-in goalkeeper Colin Meldrum.
But the home side fought back and, in a two-minute spell just after the
half-hour mark, goals from Eric Skora and Invincibile had the home side back in
front at the interval.
After the break, a Kris Boyd penalty and Invincibile's second goal, either
side of a Steven Milne goal for the visitors, demonstrated the home side's
superiority in an exciting game.
Killie fans suffered an early blow when the visitors took the lead with their
first attack of the game.
A long ball from Dens defender Dave Mackay, after Killie midfielder Skora had
carelessly lost possession, found the lively Novo in a race with home defender
Barry McLaughlin.
The little Spaniard skilfully held off the Rugby Park man and slid his angled
shot from 14 yards past Meldrum and into the corner of the net.
However, in the 32nd minute, the game turned on its head when the home side
got a deserved equaliser.
Killie midfielder James Fowler knocked a ball into the box from the right,
Boyd chested back to the waiting Skora, who drove a low shot from just inside
the box past the helpless Speroni.
There was more joy for Kilmarnock two minutes later when they took the lead
with Invincibile's first goal for the Ayrshire club.
Boyd again was involved battling for the ball in a packed penalty area and,
when the ball fell to the Australian, he slammed it high into the net from 10
yards out.
Two minutes after the re-start, Stephen Murray laid the ball off to
Invincibile 25 yards out but, this time, the Killie striker's shot went wide.
The visitors tried to fight their way back into the game and striker Steven
Milne had a good chance to equalise when Novo set him up, but the Dens hit-man
fired his angled shot wide.
A minute later, Milne headed off the post from close range from a cross by
substitute Jonay Hernandez, who had come on in the first half for Calum
McDonald.
In the 54th minute, Invincibile looked certain to score when he was clean
through against Speroni but the Dens keeper brought him down for a penalty.
Boyd stepped up to put the Dens keeper the wrong way from the spot and stretch
Killie's lead.
At the other end, a powerful Novo drove from 20 yards was confidently held by
a well-positioned Meldrum.
But the visitors were determined and, in the 62nd minute, Kilmarnock's lead
was reduced.
Hernandez's cross from the left found Milne at the back post and he slotted
home with his right foot.
However, two minutes later, Invincibile latched onto another Boyd knock-down
inside the box and the Australian made no mistake from close range.
Both sides continued in their search for goals and, 10 minutes from the end,
Boyd fired in a speculative 25-yard shot which Speroni did well to save.
