Aberdeen recorded their fourth home victory in a row with a convincing win
over Hibs.
A first half goal by Mike Newell and second half goals for in-form Eoin Jess
and Joe Miller pulled the Dons out of immediate danger.
Man of the match Stephen Glass, who earlier this week agreed to join English
Premiership Newcastle, played superbly for the Dons and was unfortunate not to
score early on when he rattled the crossbar with a great effort from 25 yards.
This was always going to be an intriguing game with both managers having been
in charge of the opposition at one point in their careers, although Billy
McNeill is only acting as caretaker boss at Easter Road following Jim Duffy's
sacking last Monday.
The visitors never really provided any goal scoring threat with Dons keeper
Jim Leighton only having to make one genuine save throughout the 90 minutes.
It was a different story however at the other end with the Hibs keeper being
by far the busier of the two with Aberdeen having 11 shots on target.
Aberdeen were well worth their win with what was certainly one of their best
performances of the season. Their constant attacking in the first half looked
like proving fruitless at half time until Newell turned well in the box after
collecting a low cross from Glass and stabbing the ball home from close range.
Jess, with another faultless performance, scored goal number two in 57
minutes when he ran onto a Glass through ball.
Two minutes later the game was over as a contest as far as Hibs were concerned
when Miller put the Dons three up when he scrambled the ball home after the Hibs
stopper had tried to block the players chip.
This win now means that the Dons have now won their last four home games, all
without conceding a goal, and leaves Hibs firmly rooted at the bottom of the
Premier League
