Hibernian cruelly saw their hopes of reaching the UEFA Cup dashed by the away goals rule as they beat Odense 2-1 at Easter Road.
Tony Mowbray's charges were already down 1-0 from the first leg of this Intertoto Cup third-round tie and they conceded a costly second-half goal to the Danes.
The Leith club rallied late on to win the game through Rob Jones and Paul Dalglish strikes but it was not enough despite the aggregate score being 2-2.
Hibs supporters realised the importance of getting behind their team and the roar emanating from the East Stand spurred on the home side.
Following a couple of half-chances from Odense, the hosts took control of the game and pounded the Danish goal with attack after attack.
Moroccan striker Abdessalam Benjelloun shot at goal but his effort was deflected just wide after 15 minutes.
The marksman then had a free-kick saved by goalkeeper Arek Onyszko before Stephen Glass' venomous effort from 25 yards was parried by the Polish shot-stopper.
The home side conjured a clear-cut chance just seconds before the break when Dalglish cleverly created space in the box after receiving Michael Stewart's pass but the former Newcastle player slammed the ball inches past the upright.
Mowbray's side were made to rue those missed chances one minute after the restart as the impressive Tobias Grahn slotted the ball past Simon Brown from an angle inside the box from Morten Fevang's pass.
That goal meant Hibs needed to score three to reach the final qualifying round of the UEFA Cup and they got one in the 51st minute when defender Jones headed Michael Stewart's wild shot into the back of the net from 15 yards.
And number two followed 11 minutes from time, when Dalglish got the slightest of touches on Steven Whittaker's pass from 18 yards.
