HIBERNIAN REPORTS 2003-2004

Livingston 4 Hibernian 1 Click here for full match stats

Livingston finished off their rollercoaster season with a fine win over Hibs in the Bank of Scotland Premier League at Almondvale.

Goals by Stuart Lovell and Derek Lilley either side of half-time shot the home side into a 2-0 lead before Mathias Doumbe pulled a goal back for the visitors.

But late strikes from David Fernandez and Lee Makel sunk the Easter Road men who paid dearly for missing several chances throughout an entertaining 90 minutes.

There was little between the teams in the early stages until Livingston took the lead in the seventh minute with Lovell's first goal of the season.

The Australian picked up a Lilley pass from the right, chested the ball down and hammered a shot from 14 yards past Hibs keeper Daniel Andersson and in off the post.

Tom McManus and Garry O'Connor missed good chances to get Hibs back on level terms.

In the 20th minute O'Connor had his best opportunity of the first half after a mistake by Livingston defender Jamie McAllister but the Hibs striker's shot from 20 yards went wide of the target.

But just before the interval the home side almost doubled their lead after a piece of quick thinking by Lilley. The former Dundee United striker latched onto a Burton O'Brien pass but his lob from 25 yards went just over the bar.

The visitors came out for the second half determined to get quickly back on level terms but it was Livingston who could have scored a second in the 50th minute.

A McAllister pass from the left was headed down by Oscar Rubio to Fernandez but the striker's shot from 10 yards failed to trouble Andersson.

The visitors were still creating opportunities and on the hour mark they missed another great chance to equalise.

A Gary Caldwell pass found O'Connor inside the Livingston penalty area but the Hibs striker managed to miss the target from 14 yards when it looked easier to score.

The visitors were punished for their missed chances in the 64th minute when Livingston doubled their lead with a terrific goal.

Jon-Paul McGovern swung a great cross in from the right and Lilley's bullet header from eight yards gave Andersson no chance.

In the 75th minute Hibs gave themselves a glimmer of hope when defender Doumbe pulled a goal back with a good strike from the edge of the Livingston box.

But two minutes later Fernandez restored the two-goal margin when he hammered an O'Brien cross from the left high into the net from 12 yards out.

Hibs were all over the place now and in the 89th minute Livi midfielder Makel ran through on gaol to finish off a clever Fernandez pass to complete the scoring.
