A dramatic injury-time goal by Steven Milne gave Dundee a share of the points
against Hibernian in an enthralling game at Dens Park.
The home side had easily controlled the first half, going ahead deservedly
through Steve Lovell seven minutes before the break.
But the Dark Blues were rocked when Derek Riordan equalised on the stroke of
half-time with a terrific 20-yard drive.
However, in a crazy two-minute spell after the interval, the Edinburgh side
were awarded two penalties, with Riordan scoring easily from the first but
having his second saved by Julian Speroni.
The home side looked to be down and out but, in injury-time, Milne popped up
to slide home a pass from substitute Nacho Novo for a leveller to spoil what
could be Bobby Williamson's last game in charge.
Careless early defending from the visitors had allowed Dens' striker Lovell to
burst through and crash a shot off Daniel Andersson from close range before
Sebastian Kneissl's follow-up shot was also blocked.
In the 19th minute, a fine Garry Brady pass split the Hibs defence and found
Milne going through on goal but a great saving tackle by Easter Road stopper
Mathias Doumbe prevented a certain goal.
The visitors were living dangerously and only moments later, an even better
tackle by Hibs midfielder Gary Caldwell prevented Milne again getting a shot in,
this time from only eight yards out.
Steven Robb then set up Kneissl 10 yards out but Andersson was again quick off
his line to smother.
A minute later though, Lovell eventually got the breakthrough for the home
side.
Garry Brady again split the visiting defence to find the Dens striker and he
made no mistake, rifling home an angled shot from 18 yards past Andersson.
But, just on the half-time whistle, the visitors got a shock equaliser when
Riordan drove a low shot from 20 yards past Julian Speroni and into the corner
of the net.
After the break, things went from bad to worse for Jim Duffy's men when they
conceded two quick penalties.
Hibs got their first in the 49th minute when Brent Sancho was adjudged to have
held Caldwell at a Steven Whittaker free-kick.
Riordan stepped up to send Speroni the wrong way and the visitors were in the
lead.
Two minutes later, there was more drama when Kneissl fouled Tom McManus in the
box but, this time, Speroni dived the right way to save the striker's shot.
Duffy brought on Novo and Neil Barrett for Kneissl and Robb on the hour mark,
which rejuvenated the Taysiders slightly but still an equaliser looked
unlikely.
In the 66th minute, following a goalmouth scramble, Milne's turn and shot from
12 yards was cleared off the line by Caldwell.
Moments later, Riordan, going all out for his hat-trick, blazed an angled shot
from 18 yards over the bar.
But, just when it looked all over for the Dens men, Novo ran clear to pick up
a Mark Fotheringham pass, squared to Milne, who tapped it in from close range to
the delight of the home fans.
