Dundee moved closer to the top six in the Scottish Premier League with a
deserved three points gained from a below-par Hibs side.
The Dark Blues dominated the first half and took the lead after only nine
minutes when Gavin Rae fired past Nick Colgan after a wonderful pass from Fabian
Caballero.
Hibs improved after half-time, but rarely threatened their hosts goal and gave
Dundee goalkeeper Julian Speroni a relatively easy night's work.
Any doubts that the points would not remain at Dens were gone with four
minutes left when Steven Milne added the second.
Hibs' miserable evening was complete with the final kick of the ball when Ian
Murray nodded a Rae cross past his own goalkeeper.
Dundee picked up where they left off against Aberdeen on Saturday and
tormented their visitors in the opening stages.
They could have taken the lead after only seven minutes when a Nacho Novo
drive from the edge of the area was almost met by Mark Burchill six yards out,
with Colgan scrambling.
Hibs managed to clear, but only for a second, as Caballero picked the ball up
16 yards out and fired a shot in on goal.
Unfortunately for Dundee, Alen Orman managed to get himself in a good position
and knock the ball clear.
Dundee were undeterred and the opening goal came two minutes later through
Scotland international Rae.
The midfielder latched on to a pass down the inside of the left flank from
Caballero and advanced towards goal, waiting for Colgan to make a move.
The Irish international stood firm, but was well beaten when Rae blasted a
shot past him and into the net from 10 yards.
Colgan almost handed Dundee their second goal on the half-hour mark when he
completely misjudged a fairly innocuous free kick.
The ball sailed into the left-hand corner of his penalty area, with Burchill
in pursuit, and the Irishman raced off his line to gather it, but failed to
collect.
Burchill appeared to have been presented with a great chance to score his
first goal for the club, but he could not get the ball under control and sliced
it out of play.
Hibs upped the pace at the start of the second half and looked far more
threatening.
Grant Brebner began to see more of the ball and he almost carved open the
Dundee defence by threading a neat ball through for Tom McManus. Dundee's Lee
Wilkie anticipated the danger and moved in to clear.
The Dark Blues wrapped up the three points with five minutes remaining when
substitute Milne raced on to the end of a Novo pass in the right channel and
drew Colgan before firing the ball over him into the net.
Hibs miserable evening was complete with the last kick of the ball when a Rae
cross found the head of Murray, under pressure from Milne at the near post, and
he nodded the ball past his own goalkeeper.
